Microneedling
To understand how radiofrequency microneedling works, you first need to know a bit about microneedling itself. Microneedling involves lightly piercing the skin using a group of ultrathin needles. We apply a topical anesthetic to prevent pain during the treatment.
Those needles deliberately cause irritation in the dermis — the layer of skin where you create collagen (the protein that provides skin with volume and firmness) and elastin (the protein that provides skin elasticity).
The irritation causes an injury reaction in which you generate extra collagen and elastin to repair damaged areas. The extra collagen provides additional skin support and the new elastin helps tighten the skin.
In addition, microneedling helps you gradually shed the damaged outermost layer of skin as the fresh new skin below it rises to the surface.
Radiofrequency Heat
Radiofrequency waves have all the same effects as microneedling. With radiofrequency microneedling, the needles first penetrate the skin and then emit the waves directly into the dermis. The waves heat up the tissue, destroying old, worn-out cells, and generating a healing response.
