What It Can Help With
IPL works on acne differently from most topical treatments. It targets the source of the problem beneath the skin's surface, the bacteria, inflammation and overactive sebaceous glands that drive breakouts, while also addressing what active acne leaves behind.
Active Acne and Breakouts
IPL can be used to help improve the appearance of active acne by targeting some of the underlying factors that contribute to inflamed breakouts.
Facial Redness and Inflammation
The anti-inflammatory effect of IPL helps calm the redness and swelling associated with inflammatory acne, leaving skin looking less aggravated and more settled.
Post-Acne Redness and Erythema
IPL targets the superficial blood vessels responsible for that lingering redness, helping to reduce its appearance over a series of sessions.
Acne Scarring
IPL stimulates collagen and elastin production in the deeper layers of the skin, which can help improve the appearance of shallow acne scarring and post-acne discolouration over time.
Sebaceous Gland Activity
Clinical evidence suggests IPL can reduce the size and activity of sebaceous glands, which may help reduce excessive oiliness and decrease the conditions that contribute to recurring breakouts.
Overall Skin Tone and Texture
Beyond acne-specific concerns, IPL supports overall skin renewal, improving tone, reducing uneven pigmentation and leaving skin looking clearer and more consistent with regular sessions.

IPL Acne Treatment uses pulses of broad-spectrum light to target acne-related concerns beneath the skin's surface. Light-based acne treatment is thought to help by acting on acne-related bacteria, calming inflammation, and affecting the oil-producing structures linked to breakouts. At FaB Esthetics, the treatment settings are adjusted based on whether the priority is active acne, lingering redness, or post-breakout skin changes.
Results develop over the course of treatment as the bacterial population reduces, inflammation settles and the skin renews itself. Most clients need a series of sessions to achieve their best results, and your consultation will give you a clearer sense of what to expect for your specific skin.
Talk It Through With Becky1. Skin assessment and consultation
Before anything begins, we assess your skin to confirm IPL is appropriate for your skin tone, acne type and concern. Treatment settings are adjusted specifically for your skin.
2. Cleanse and prep
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and a cool gel is applied to the treatment area to protect the skin's surface and help the device move smoothly.
3. Protective eyewear
You'll be given protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the light pulses throughout the session.
4. IPL treatment
The handheld device is moved across the treatment area, delivering controlled pulses of light to the targeted zones. Most clients describe the sensation as a brief, mild snapping feeling that settles quickly between pulses.
5. Post-treatment care and SPF
After the session, the gel is removed and a gentle soothing product and SPF are applied. We'll walk you through exactly how to care for your skin in the days that follow, including what to avoid and what to expect as the treatment takes effect.
What to Know Before and After
Before Your Treatment
Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds and self-tanner for at least two weeks before your appointment.
Stop using retinoids, glycolic acid and vitamin A products for at least a week before your session.
Come in with clean skin, makeup-free, perfume and scented products.
Let us know at your consultation about any skin conditions, medications or recent treatments, particularly if you are taking isotretinoin.
Let us know if you have any open lesions or active skin infections before your appointment.
After Your Treatment
Your skin may look slightly red or flushed for a day or two following treatment. This is normal and settles on its own.
Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day. Your skin is more sun-sensitive post-treatment, and sun exposure during this period can affect your results and increase the risk of complications.
Use only gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturisers for the first few days post-treatment.
Avoid exfoliating acids, retinoids and active skincare ingredients for at least a week after your session.
Avoid intense heat including saunas and vigorous exercise for 24 to 48 hours after your session.

I absolutely love FaBesthetics! From my first appointment with Becky I have felt comfortable, confident, and amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. I have done laser hair removal treatments and most recently a Dermaplaning Facial. Everything is very clean and the environment is very relaxing and soothing! My skin feels absolutely amazing and clear and I actually have been able to leave the house without makeup. I haven't had the confidence to do that in over 20 years. I highly recommended Becky - she is absolutely amazing ❤️

IPL Acne Treatment uses intense pulsed light to target the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts, reduce inflammation and improve the appearance of post-acne redness and scarring. It's a non-invasive option for people who want to reduce active acne without medication.
Both treatments use the same IPL technology but they target different concerns. The IPL Photofacial focuses on pigmentation, sun damage, brown spots and broken capillaries. The IPL Acne Treatment is specifically targeted at acne-causing bacteria, inflammation, post-acne redness and the sebaceous activity that drives breakouts. The settings and approach are adjusted accordingly for each treatment.
Most clients describe a brief, mild snapping sensation as the device pulses, similar to a light rubber band flick. It's generally well tolerated and settles quickly between pulses.
Minimal. Most clients experience some redness or mild flushing for a day or two following treatment. You can typically return to your normal routine the same day.
Results develop gradually over the course of treatment as the bacterial population reduces, inflammation settles and the skin renews itself. Some clients notice improvement in redness and active breakouts within a few weeks of starting the course. More significant improvements in scarring and overall skin tone develop with continued sessions.
Most clients benefit from a series of 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. The right number depends on the severity of your acne and how your skin responds. During your consultation, we'll give you a clearer recommendation.
No, and this is important. IPL works best on fair to medium skin tones. For darker skin tones, the risk of complications including burns and hyperpigmentation increases significantly. During your consultation, we'll confirm whether IPL is appropriate for your skin tone.
Yes. IPL stimulates collagen and elastin production in the deeper layers of the skin, which can help improve the appearance of shallow acne scarring alongside treating active breakouts. It can also reduce the post-acne redness that persists after lesions have cleared.
IPL Acne Treatment is not recommended for clients with darker skin tones, active tans, nodulocystic or severe cystic acne, pregnancy, eczema, psoriasis, open lesions, or those taking isotretinoin. During your consultation, we'll go through your full skin and health history so we can confirm it's appropriate for you.
